MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. – Each week there are various meetings held in the Town of Mount Pleasant. These meetings are open to the public and are ways for residents to stay involved in the community while learning about recent happenings. Here is a list of what is scheduled to take place this week.
On Tuesday, the Mount Pleasant Town Board will hold a public work session at Town Hall in Valhalla at 8 p.m. No agenda for this meeting has been posted.
Wednesday, the Mount Pleasant Central School District Board of Education will hold a public work session at 7:30 p.m. in the district office in Thornwood. An agenda for this meeting has not yet been posted.
Thursday, the Mount Pleasant Planning Board will meet at Town Hall in Valhalla at 8 p.m. The agenda for this meeting includes proposed modification to a warehouse in Hawthorne and proposed temporary seasonal modifications to the Home Depot in Hawthorne. Todays picture and topic of Joan, Mark and I reminded me of a recent town meeting where one couple attended to make us aware of their thoughts about the new Walgreens opening soon in Thornwood.
The gentleman brought up some very valid points for us to look into, but what I admired most about him was how articulate and pleasant his presentation was. He wasn't demanding anything or telling us what we should do, merely presenting his thoughts.
This brings me back to my interview with you prior to the election. One of the questions you asked me was my thinking on seeking higher office out of town government .My response to you was that I felt the higher you go up in government, the further you get away from the people you really want to represent or are supposed too. And seeing more recently how our federal government is more and more displays to me how disconnected our representatives in government really are.
My community involvement started when I was seventeen or eighteen years old, it was not for profit or popularity, it was just because my community meant so much to me, it was my home, where I grew up, had great friends and family. I took exception to someones comment during the election about the town board being some type of club that was limited to a certain few, all the members of the board take their jobs very seriously and the towns best interest is their priority. The town board positions are open for anyone who feels the same way. None of us just walked in the door and said we want to be town board members, we all worked for our community, weather on boards, committees or other volunteer positions, and showed a sincere interest in the positive progress of our community.
People who are not involved in the community are the first ones to complain about the town, if you are involved you understand that this is a wonderful place to live and a great place to raise a family and I for one will do all I can to keep it a wonderful affordable place to live. Club or no club!
